Is there parts that break a crap ton or do they have reliability problems? I feel like these ugly cars are ignored, but AWD twin turbo V6 is a good thing.

I hear a lot about their reliability, but I've heard they are nice cars.

They run on Kingsford Charcoal after a little bit.

I think the issue is that they were very complex cars for the time and there's a lot of stuff to go wrong in there.

YES, they're parts are very expensive and YES they do have reliability problems. Take it from me, I owned one.
I'll shed more light on it whenever I get around to writing a piece on it. But be VERY WARY of what you buy. We had a customer's Stealth, that he bought new, racked up over $3k in repairs.

They're not too bad.
How much extra cash do you have laying around?

They are really cool cars with weak transmissions but they can be made to be fast as fuck. But they fall under the traditional DSM problem car era. Just like the GSX and TSi AWD's they will break more than they run and cost you lots of money to fix, so buying a well sorted car with a well known service history is key if you are contemplating buying one. I really like the cockpit of the VR-4's it is nice and cozy.

I'll counter the guys saying they're fat pigs and blah blah blah...
My VR-4 was 100% reliable when I wasn't letting it down. I bought it with a bad power steering rack (leaked, but functioned) and it would puff a tiny bit of smoke on startup. I did the power steering rack (twice, but that's a different story) and had the valve stem seals replaced. Everything was great, ran like a top, but the shop that did the head work apparently screwed something up and it started smoking again not long later.
Parts aren't terribly expensive if you know where to buy.
Definitely do buy a car with a good history, don't waste time fixing up a junker.

What about Galant Vr-4's? I know they are not similar but they are DSM and come from the same era.

I can't say much about those, just cause I don't know. But I had the Stealth for about a year, and only 4 months of it did it work properly. Normally, it wouldn't rev over 1500 without misfiring.

Agreed. I had a close friend with one, and know mechanics who worked on them when they came out and they are a very expensive and complex car to own. In their day they were certainly cool, but I'd look elsewhere to spend your money now days.
